Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski is the first Bulgarian high academic school establishment. Its history is an embodiment and a continuation of the century-long cultural and educational tradition of the Bulgarian nation. The University is the center of the development of science and the education of students in all domains of life; it also cultivates highly educated, nationally responsible personalities who will lead the Bulgarian nation to spiritual feats and social welfare.
The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEBA), which is the starting point of the Global Datathons, is one of the leading institutions for teaching and research in the field of Economics and Business in Bulgaria and the Balkan region. The Faculty’s data science-oriented programmes are designed to meet the needs of the new business environment where the students acquire key skills in understanding data specifics, effectively reveal hidden information and turn it into value.
The Benefits of participating in the Datathon
Here is what Gloria Hristova, an alumni representative at the advisory council part of the Master’s in Business Analytics program at FEBA, says about the upcoming datathon and her role as a mentor:
“I am sincerely happy to have the opportunity and challenge to be a part of the mentoring team for one of the cases. Text analysis is my favorite topic so I am very enthusiastic about my participation. I also hope that through my experience I will be able to contribute and help the participants to present interesting and working solutions.
The Datathon is a great initiative and I believe it is very beneficial to all participants. I would also like to congratulate Data Science Society for the organisation of the event.”
Joining the Datathon in Sofia
Everyone with the desire to learn in the field of Data Science can participate– be it math geeks, data gurus and enthusiasts, students and beginners or anyone interested in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics or an area of the Data Science domain.
*Keep in mind that if you are a participant, who wants to join the Datathon physically in Sofia, you should choose In Sofia, Bulgaria from the drop-down options of the question – How you are going to participate at the registration page!

Registration:
It starts @19:00 HRS with some networking with mentors and companies.
Cases and Mentors presentations:
Cases, Experts, and Industry mentors will be presented briefly by the DSS team following the schedule below and QA from the participants about the case.
There will be time for an explanation of the Datathon rules and what is expected as a result of a successful completion of the Datathon. Every participant without a team will have the chance to participate in a matchmaking process and form his/her team.

Team presentations are on Sunday, @15:30 HRS and everyone is welcome (for people not participating in the Datathon, please register for free Datathon Fan: Online Stream to notify you when we begin).
Transport and parking:
Parking in the area is difficult on weekdays, however, it should be no problem on the weekend.
However, we recommend using public transport if possible. The closest bus stop is Zhk Iztok, bus 84, 280; trolley – 4,5,8,11.
Other:
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the building.
Please note that this is a 48 hours event and teams will be working throughout Friday and Saturday night. Access will be controlled and limited in the hours between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM. We provide coffee, tea and snacks.
